We’ve pulled together the most common questions people have about Stride-On
Stride-On provides a continuous, low-dose release of copper ions from a band placed around the horse's pastern.
These copper ions move naturally down the leg with moisture and sweat, creating a gentle protective layer over the hoof wall, frog, and white line. Copper is well known for its broad antimicrobial activity, helping reduce bacteria and fungi that can damage hoof tissues.
Stride-On supports hoof hygiene and integrity. It is not a medicine and does not replace veterinary or farriery care.
Early and continuous use during wet or muddy conditions, or in horses prone to hoof problems, offers the best preventive support.
No. The Stride-On leg band acts downward from the pastern. It continuously delivers copper ions toward the hoof and frog, but does not affect tissues above the band's placement (such as the fetlock or cannon area).
It depends on the type and depth of the hoof issue.
- For mild hoof hygiene concerns or early thrush, improvement may be noticed within 2–3 weeks.
- For deeper or long-standing issues, visible improvement may take 4–8 weeks, as horn regrows and healthier tissue replaces damaged areas.
Stride-On works best as part of a consistent routine including proper trimming, cleaning, and nutrition.
For horses that are repeatedly affected, Stride-On can be worn continuously during wet, muddy, or humid periods when infection risk is high.
Always consult your vet or farrier if infections persist or worsen.
We’ve compiled answers to the most frequently asked questions about how Stride-On helps with various hoof conditions
Stride-On can assist by providing surface-level copper contact in the affected area when the skin is open or sensitive to bacterial growth.
However, thick or crusted scabs may block the copper flow from reaching the skin. In such cases, first soften or manage scabs under veterinary guidance before applying Stride-On. Always seek your vet's advice for active or painful skin lesions.
Stride-On helps by continuously releasing small amounts of copper ions that move toward these regions, suppressing microbial activity and helping maintain a drier, healthier surface. For severe cases with deep necrotic tissue, veterinary or farrier debridement may be needed first. Stride-On can then help preserve the clean environment during recovery.
White line disease or seedy toe occurs when bacteria or fungi invade and degrade the junction between the hoof wall and sole, sometimes extending behind the wall where treatment is difficult to reach.
Stride-On’s continuous copper release helps protect and support the recovery of affected hooves by maintaining a hostile environment for microbes on the surface. However, because copper cannot reach deep separations, effective treatment requires that the area first be cleaned or debrided by a professional. Once the hoof has been properly prepared, Stride-On helps maintain hoof hygiene and reduce the risk of reinfection as the horn regrows.
Copper ions from Stride-On bind to the outer keratin layer, forming a thin mineral film that helps the horn stay cleaner and more resistant to softening from moisture or manure contact. This helps the hoof surface remain firmer between trims and complements good farriery and nutrition. Stride-On does not change how keratin is made — it protects what is already there.
We’ve pulled together the key questions on using and maintaining Stride-On safely
Simply secure the band around the pastern. The band should not be tight (allow two fingers to fit under the band) — one-time fit, no mess, no fuss. You don't need any tools or wraps. Please always use caution during hoof care.
Each band typically remains active for up to 6 months of continuous use, depending on climate, humidity, and wear. You can check activity by gently touching the copper insert (it should retain its metallic sheen) or by using copper test strips. Replace the band when the copper is exhausted or the strap shows wear.
Yes. Stride-On is compatible with most hoof-cleaning and conditioning routines. Avoid heavy greases or impermeable coatings on the pastern, which could block copper ion flow.
If your horse shows persistent lameness, deep cracks, discharge, or strong odour, or if swelling extends above the pastern, contact your veterinarian or farrier immediately. Stride-On supports hoof health, but diagnosis and treatment decisions always belong to qualified professionals.
